The Book Tag

I stole this tag from Crimson Shadows. It seemed rather interesting, and I suppose I'll have fun doing it.

1. Favorite childhood book? I'm trying to remember the first book I read, I can see the illustrations but the name eludes me. So I'll go with Daddy Long-Legs by Jean Webster.
2. What are you reading right now? 1984 by George Orwell for my book club meet.
3. Bad book habit? Hoarding and hoarding and not reading.
4. Do you have an e-reader? Nope. And I don't think I will buy one anytime soon. I just love the feel of a book in my hands, to turn pages.
5. Do you prefer to read one book at a time or several at once? I have always wante to try reading more than one book at a time. Maybe I will someday.
6. Have your reading habits changed since starting a blog? Since the internet, YES ! I read far too less than I would like to.
7. Least favorite book you read this year (so far)? The year just started and I've finished just one book which I really liked. So I'll pass.
8. Favorite book you’ve read this year? None this year. Outliers from last.
9. How often do you read out of your comfort zone? Not too often. I tried non-fiction for the first time last year. Outliers. Loved it to bits.
10. What is your reading comfort zone? Indian fiction. I relate to Indian authors more than anything else.
11. Can you read on the bus? Bus. train. plane.
12. Favorite place to read? Anywhere with good lighting. and a gentle breeze.
13. What is your policy on book lending? I am not a fan of lending. I would wriggle my way out of it if I could.
14. Do you ever dog-ear books? No. I have my pretty bookmarks. And I usually remember the page number.
15. Do you ever write in the margins of your books? No. i like to keep my books clean and spotless. I only write my name on the first page, that too in pencil.
16. Not even with text books? Of course I write in text books. Doesn't everyone? But even that can't be scribbles. All neat and tidy notes. Straight lines for underlining.
17. What is your favorite language to read in? English. I haven't really tried any other language. I would love to be able to read French. and Urdu. and Bengali.
18. What makes you love a book? Characters, specially if I can relate to them, or they have something common with me. Same goes for the story.
19. What will inspire you to recommend a book? How much I loved it.
20. Favorite genre? Fiction. preferably Indian.
21. Genre you rarely read (but wish you did?) Non-fiction. I tried one and now plan to read more of it.
22. Favorite biography? I can't remember the last one I read.
23. Have you ever read a self-help book? Yup. Just for fun.
24. Most inspirational book you’ve read this year (fiction or non-fiction)? I haven't finished it yet, but I'm sure it will fall under this category - The Suitable Boy.
25. Favorite reading snack? I couldn't get my hands greasy. It would ruin my book.
26. Name a case in which hype ruined your reading experience. Hmmm. Eat Pray Love.
27. How often do you agree with critics about a book? I hardly read book reviews.
28. How do you feel about giving bad/negative reviews? If the book is bad, its bad. Positive criticism is really helpful.
29. If you could read in a foreign language, which language would you chose? French
30. Most intimidating book you’ve ever read? The Alchemy of Desire.
31. Most intimidating book you’re too nervous to begin? Atlas Shrugged.
32. Favorite Poet? No favorite as such. But I like a few by Yeats, Wordsworth and Vikram Seth.
33. Favorite fictional character? Still deciding.
34. Favorite fictional villain? Umm, can't think of one.
35. Books I’m most likely to bring on vacation? Whatever I'm currently reading.
36. The longest I’ve gone without reading. Months. and I'm ashamed.
37. Name a book that you could/would not finish. Thankfully I haven't given up on any yet.
38. What distracts you easily when you’re reading? The darn internet.
39. Favorite film adaptation of a novel? Harry Potter. though I can't really say as I haven't read the books. So, Pride and Prejudice.
40. Most disappointing film adaptation? Love Story.
41. The most money I’ve ever spent in the bookstore at one time? Maybe 5-600. I don't buy in bulk. Specially coz I have a huge unread collection at home, so I feel too guilty to buy more.
42. How often do you skim a book before reading it? Rarely. I usually know what I want. 43. What would cause you to stop reading a book half-way through? Dull, dreary writing.
44. Do you like to keep your books organized? Yes. All read books go into one shelf.
45. Do you prefer to keep books or give them away once you’ve read them? I hoard.
46. Are there any books you’ve been avoiding? A Fine Balance. It's lying on my desk, but the sheer size of the book is overwhelming.
47. Name a book that made you angry. The Kite Runner. Angry and sad.
48. A book you didn’t expect to like but did? Outliers.
49. A book that you expected to like but didn’t? The Middleman. Didn't like it too much.
50. Favorite guilt-free, pleasure reading? Hmmm...Fashion magazines I would say.
