Break ke Baad

What can I say ! I am crazy about Deepika Padukone :P I find her just so stunning and she looks so damn good in the movie ! And her acting skills have majorly improved ! I could even tolerate Imran Khan ! So the movie wasn't that bad.

It is the same ol-same ol story. Long distance, break ups, freedom, love, realization..blah blah blah. But I liked it ! Yes I did ! But I knew I would coz of D ! She has the most awesome legs ! I wish I did, then even I would strut around in shorts n minis all day long ! I think she looked kinda weird in the indian outfits coz she has a long torso and no curves, so the lehngas looked awkward !

From the OST, I love Dooriyan (specially the one at the end with the candid dancing and jumping around). I also like Adhoore. The rest are so-so.

A nice, curl-up-in-bed and watch movie !

Guzaarish

After the last SLB movie, I hoped this one would be better...and better it was.

Inspired by "The Sea Inside" this movie is about a quadriplegic who appeals for euthanasia. I thought it would be a very rona-dhona filled movie, but surprisingly it wasn't. Hrithik has performed brilliantly. He is so good, just so good. HE was perfect for the role.

Aishwarya was okay, she didn't have much to do, which she did well ! The lawyer (dunno the actress) does a good job. Overall it was a decent movie. Very predictable, but a one-time watch. At home.

So this was the first movie I saw this weekend.

Jhootha Hi Sahi

Okay, before you judge me, I was bored and the only other option was Hisss !

I went into the movie not expecting anything and I was pleasantly surprised. It's a watchable movie. I mean if you aint got anything better to watch, this is acceptable.

Typically candy floss, it revolves around this guy who works as a suicide counselor and falls in love with one girl who calls one night. They meet, but she doesn't know that he is the same guy from the phone. They fall in love and then she finds out and the story goes on ! The ending is too filmy, just like "Jaane Tu.." same director naa.

The actress was particularly bugging. She laughed too much or cried too much. John was totally adorable ! This geeky, lost character really suited him. Surprisingly Raghu acted pretty well and so did Aliya (she was one of the friends from Jaane Tu..)

The movie has some really LOL moments. The whole theatre was in splits. But then it also had some really bad songs (Music by AR Rehman, dunno whats gone wrong with him) and is slow at many points.

I wouldn't recommend it, but as a last resort !

Sliding Doors

My uncle had suggested this movie years back but I never got around to watching it. Then came torrents and finally a month back I saw it.

The story is interesting. It's about a girl. It shows two parallel paths in her life, both formed b'coz of one incident (she either takes the train or misses it) that changes the chain of events. So the story follows both these lives and how different things are but how at the end it all boils down to the same thing.

A very well made movie. Gwyneth Paltrow plays the lead and she does it well.

A watch-worthy movie for sure.

We are Family

Okay... don't judge me...sometimes I just can't help it. Also, it has Kajol and I really do like her a lot. *makes small face*

And BTW, okay go ahead judge me, the movie isn't THAT bad ! There its done. I said it. But it really isn't so bad. I had expected worse but no... I managed to not hate it. I know it is cranky and all emotional and all that but I suppose I was in a mood for that kinda stuff.

Anyways, its a Step Mom remake, from start to end. Don't have much to say about the story. Thats about it !

The Millenium Series

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl who Played with Fire and The Girl who Kicked the Hornets' Nest.

Three books turned into three movies. Written by late author Stieg Larsson, and then turned into a movie trilogy, the story follows the life of a young girl and a journalist who cross paths . They eventually end up entangled in the girl's troubled past. Add to this a lot of Swedish and Russian mafia and politics and you get three interconnected movies.

The movies are decent. Watchable. Nothing too great about it though. The first one, I found too gory. Harsh and crude. But then it grew on me. I had to complete the series and the other two were okay. The main character (the girl) looks gothic and slightly crazy. And the dragon tattoo she has, nothing like the one on the book cover :P

If you are into crime-solving mystery movies, watch it. But don't expect too much.

Peepli Live

Dark Humor. There were so many times where my conscience slapped me for laughing but I couldn't help cracking up.

The movie is about a very poor village family, who are left with no choice but to sell their land to pay off their debt. Until, they hear that the government is willing to pay upto 1 lakh to farmers who commit suicide. They decide to go ahead with that...and the movie unfolds. Corruption, red tapism etc are brought to the lime light.

Very well made movie. No wonder it didn't do well at the box office. No one appreciates intelligent movies anymore. We are just the tiny minority. But nevertheless, it was a good movie.

Watch it. It makes you think and also makes you laugh.

My 3rd Bangalore movie with S, the first two being Sarkar Raj (WTF) and The Happening (Awesome)

It's Complicated

Meryl Streep has always been a favorite. I think she is a brilliant actress. She fits right into any kind of role, be it a movie like 'Doubt' or this hilarious comedy.

The movie is about a divorced couple played by Meryl and Alec Baldwin, who have a chance encounter one night and start having an affair. Alec is married to another woman, the one he had an affair with while married to Meryl. Meryl is highly confused about the entire arrangement but plays along as she is having fun. In the meanwhile, Steve Martin, who is her architect, becomes interested in her. Finally she has to choose. Alec even leaves his wife to come back to her.

I liked the movie. A nice fun watch. It makes you laugh. The ending was nice too. Not the same old kinds. If nothign else, watch it for Meryl.

P.S. The entire time all I was thinking was - Ewww...Alec is so damn hairy. :D

Inception

I cannot review this movie. Whatever I say about it will not do justice. All I will say is WATCH IT.

It is mind-blowing, makes your grey cells hurt and in a gud way ! It is complex and you have to strain your mind to figure it out but its all very worth it !

I have a new favorite :) Nolan has done it for me !

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

A crude movie. Rough and harsh. Very in-your-face. The storyline was interesting. I anyways like murder mysteries. This was one too. Not murder though. Just a mystery. Unsolved for decades.

Its a book adaptation. I didn't know the movie was in Swedish. Thankfully it had subtitles. It's part of a trilogy. I am kinda looking forward to the other two movies coz I want to know the history of this girl, the one with the dragon tattoo.

She is a very disturbed woman. When I saw the book cover, I assumed it was a Chinese character but in the movie its a Swedish girl and the tattoos are so different. Its not the dainty one shown on the cover but the entire back of this goth chick is covered with the tattoo. I dint really like it too much. But thats another story.

She helps this writer solve a mystery he is working on and you can see flashes of her life in between. I think the next movie is about her - "The Girl who Played with Fire." Let see.

This was an okay-ish movie. Very average.

The Virgin Suicides

Strange movie.

Family of 5 daughters. All very pretty girls. Very strict mother. The youngest kills herself. Then the other 4 start leading normal lives till one of them does not come back home one night. They are all then locked up inside the house and taken out from school. Soon, they kill themselves one night. 

Narration by 4 boys who were besotted by them.

Very strange movie. Period. 

Wall E

Some how I missed this one. Never really thought it would be worth watching I guess. But I was so so wrong ! 

This movie is brilliant ! It is one of the cutest, sweetest, makes me go awwww kinda movie !!!

Its about this robot called Wall E, who is a garbage compressor. He is the only one left on Earth and is assigned to clean it all up. Then one day, a spaceship arrives and another robot "eva" is left on Earth. Wall E begins to totally adore Eva, but she is here on a mission to find vegetation. Wall E finds a plant which he gives Eva but she has to return to her spaceship and then the exciting journey begins of bringing all the humans back to Earth (they have been living on a spaceship for years).

The movie is cute and funny. A must watch. You will love it !

Knight and Day

Tom Cruise. He is still as good looking as ever. Ah, makes my eyes light up. 

Rest of it was blah. Same old story. He's a spy, she gets involved and the movie goes on. Basically he has to protect a battery (which is very special btw coz it never runs out) and the geek who invented it. The bad guys are after it and he flies around the world to keep it safe. It reminded me a lot of his Mission Impossible movies..but slicker.

There are moments in the movie which are truly hilarious. Does make you laugh but thats about it.

Very O-k-a-y movie. DVD watch for sure. Not worth spending the big bucks !

Sex and the City 2

What a boring excuse for a movie. 

I saw SATC with two of my closest friends and boy did we have fun ! We could relate to so many things and enjoyed every bit of it. I expected the same sort of fun from the second movie. To say I was disappointed would be much more than an understatement.

It was bad, bad, bad. Apart from the first 15 minutes, the movie just dragged by while I forced myself to keep my eyes open. Thank goodness I was saved the torture of watching it in a cinema hall. Precious rupees saved.

I should have listened to the numerous warnings I got on twitter. But a gals gotto do wat a gals gotto do. And well.. now I know better.

Best avoided, unless excessive drama and OTT fashion is your cup of tea.

The Blair Witch Project

I bought the DVD for this movie months ago. I was waiting to watch it with S, but something or the other kept getting in the way. Then, day before yesterday, he just happened to drop in and we decided to see the movie.

Well, I heard the movie was the scariest ever and all that. So I was expecting to be really scared outta my wits, but nothing like that happened.

The movie is supposedly a true story. These 3 students went into this forest to make a documentary and never returned. A year later their footage was found and this is it. There are two cameras, one which they use to shoot the documentary and the other which they use to shoot their entire trip. It is quite spooky at times. Especially coz one of the cameras is in B/W.It gives an eerie touch to the entire film.

The only thing that really scares you is knowing that all that they show actually happened. There isnt any gore. Just strange occurrences. This one time, there are there voodoo structures made from sticks just hanging from the trees everywhere. Very spooky. And then when they find piles of rocks outside their tent. Weird stuff happens. But thats it. It isnt as scary as I had thought it wud be, which is why maybe I dint enjoy it too much.

Its a hugely talked about movie, so see it if you are inclined to. Very o-k-a-y.

Raajneeti

What a horrible waste of time.

S had warned me that it would be terrible but somehow I thought it might just be good.
But oh was I in for a bad surprise.
I went along with Dad. The theater was pretty empty. And then the torture began.

Its a hotch-potch of a story. Totally confused direction. It is basically about a family of politicians and their fight for power. Mama, chacha, bhanja, dewar all bloody mixed in a khichdi. Noone has even acted well. Such a huge starcast but everyone failed.

WTF moment - All the bloody women in the movie get pregnant the very first time they do it. Gosh, super fertility I must say.
WTF moment 2 - What the hell was Shruti Seth thinking whne she took up that role ? It does not suit her one bit. She looked totally out of place.
WTF moment 3 - Which movie was being copied btw ? Was it the godfather or the Mahabharat or what ? Such a fine blend, what a masterful director.

A utter waste I mus say. Thank god I did not pay too much for the tickets.

Did you hear about the Morgans ?

This movie was lying in my folder for eras. I kept putting off watching it coz I heard it was boring and not worth it. Finally yesterday, I decided I must watch it and make place.

The flick is about this separated couple (separated b'coz he slept with someone else) who witness a crime together and are sent away on a witness protection program. He still wants to get back together and they spend a lot of time together on this forced vacation and realize they still love each other. They decide to come back and adopt a child too and all ends well.

The funny has its laughs. Some moments are really hilarious. I pretty much enjoyed the movie, quite unexpectedly. And of course, it has Hugh Grant. What more does a girl need. That accent of his is like honey being poured into my ears. And someone was saying he aged ? Bah !

Watch it on a day off. It's a good fun flick.

Repo Men

Average movie. I was kinda disinterested and hit the forward button at times. 

It is a futuristic movie. People who are ill, are given organs and have to pay premiums for them. If they fail to pay on time, the "Repo Men" come in and collect the organ right from their body. Strange concept and I wondered why they weren't any laws or regulations against that. Anyways, so this one Repo guy (Jude Law) is planning on shifting his job and has to do one last act. At this job, he is injured and has to get a replacement heart from himself. He then goes through a lot of trouble and cannot make his own payments. His partner (Forrest Whitaker) is sent in to collect his heart. The story then follows.

I really liked the ending of the movie.Very unexpected twist in the tale. Watch the movie just for that I'll say.

Btw, Repo = repossession, just in case u were wondering.

Very passable movie, I had to watch it coz it was lying on my drive and I wanted to delete it.

JAIL

Ok... I watched this movie too late. I mean, I should have seen it when it came out. And that I realized yesterday after I finished watching it.

It is a well made movie. A true depiction of what exactly happens inside an Indian jail. Some parts shock you, but most you already know exist. At times you feel enraged to have to live in such a country with its so-called democracy. The fact is, we live in a police state. The state of affairs are pathetic and ever deteriorating.

The movie bares it all. Neil has done a decent job. At times it is predictable b'coz most of already know what goes on in this country. The slow judicial system, corrupt cops, innocent victims et al.

I dunno what more to say about the movie. Watch it if you want a reality check.

Perfect Mis-Match

Yes..its in the name. This movie is a total miss. I don't know what my sis was thinking when she said it was a really funny movie and stuff. I could kill her for the torture.

The movie is about this couple in the US who falls in love. The girl is Gujrati and the boy - Punjabi. The fathers are played by Boman Irani and Anupam Kher respectively. The chic is Nandana Sen, who can't act for NUTS !! It shows how the families don't get along because they are so different but in the end the parents compromise for the kids' happiness. Blah blah blah. The only thing funny was the part when the dads interact, which is like for a very short time. The movie was pretty unbearable. But, me, I have this bad habit of not being able to stop watching a movie mid-way. However bad it maybe. I sat through Rudraksh on my b'day (god bless my soul) and also through Bas Ek Pal etc. Ya, I am trying to kill the habit.

So, please don't venture out to watch this one. A big waste of time.
