I hadn't seen a movie for long... and alone.. that was a really really long time back !
Finally I got some time this weekend.. and went to catch "Julie & Julia".
I had seen the trailer a long time back and I really liked it. I kept trying to find it somewhere coz it released long back in the US. But to no avail. Then it finally did release here. At first I thought I would really get to watching it, but I got the perfect opportunity today.
Had not been to Inox in a long time. Nothing much has changed. I grabbed a 'Paneer achari' wrap, as lunch hadn't been planned. I walked in about 5 mins late, but hadn't missed much.
A wonderful movie. There are few movies these days that make you feel so nice at the end. This is just one of those.Meryl Streep is just great as Julia Child. I don't know the actual person, but I've heard that she played her perfectly, especially the high pitched voice. Meryl is simply adorable. The character is so sweet, funny and cute. You just want to jump up and give her a hug ! And they way she cooks, and describes food...mmmmm.. makes your mouth water. She describes butter in such a way that even if you are on a diet, you would just love to gobble up some. Also, her husband is just the cutest. He is so supportive, so caring. I think he is imaginary !! Ha ha !
On the other hand, Julie played by Amy Adams, is young, impatient and jumpy. She is lost in life and Julia shows her direction. She finds herself by cooking her way through Julia's book, which is for the servantless Americans :) Guess we Indians don't really get what that is ! Amy Adams is really refreshing. I have liked her before too, in Sunshine Cleaning and Doubt.
I simply loved all the cooking. It really made me want to take up cooking lessons, but in Paris ;) !! he he, IF ONLY !!! The food looked so delicious, I think I'm gonna try some of the recipes.
One thing I really liked in the movie was the blogging bit. I could SO relate to it. The way Julie says that they are all connected to her life etc. I am always waiting for my favorites to update their blogs. I want to know what they did, how their kids are doing, their vacations, their jobs, everything !! I really feel as if I know them. Its a strange kind of bonding but its really special. And I got to know that both are true stories. I thought only Julia Child was a real person, but it turns out that even Julie Powell exists. She has written the book 'Julia & Julia' which was then turned into this movie. And she has written another one, yet to be published.
All in all, this movie is a gastronomical delight and a MUST-WATCH !!
