Five Point Someone - The play

Wow... My first play officially ! Tickets, for which, I had booked almost a month ago. I was so excited. Five point someone was a book I had really liked. It was my fav. Chetan Bhagat book, now 2 States comes quite close.

Ya, so I had bought two tickets, undecided as to who I would drag along, coz not many people I know are play enthusiasts. Finally, S decided to accompany me and seemed eager to watch a play :)

The D day arrived and I was all set. I reached the venue 20 minutes early and handed over the e-ticket printout to a cute guy at the counter :) Who doesnt appreciate some NSP ;) He gave me the tickets and I went over to grab some Naturals ice cream before the play started. S was late as usual and I would have thrown a fit, except that it hadnt started !

The Play - I think the narrator was awesome. He spoke really well, and even tho he fumbled once or twice, I really liked him ! Great diction. For everyone who has read the book, the play was exactly the same, maybe one or two alterations, but mostly the same. For those who haven't, the play is based on the book which 3 idiots was adapted from. For those who haven't watched 3 idiots also, its about 3 guys at IIT, who dont do too well and their life there.

The main guy, Hari (actor, not narrator) was great ! I think he was undoubtedly the best among them all. His expressions were superb. Just too hilarious. A very good actor I must say, coz I know theatre is difficult. Even Alok was really good, so cute and chubby. Acted well too. Ryan was pretty good, just sometimes he dint seem convincing, but he was cute, all body-shody ! The gal was decent too... I liked her monologue quite a lot, where she talks to her dead brother.

The weak links were the profs. Especially the man playing Prof. Cherrian. I mean come on, the other actors were so gud, they cud have surely taken someone better ! Neways, thankfully he had jua 3-4 scenes. The high points in the play were Hari-Nehas first kiss scene and how Ryan troubles them. Also Aloks monologue, whrer he describes a guy called "Loser." Really funny. Also, the love scene between Hari and Neha where they very innovatively showed a vertical bed and all. Nice ! And I dint know people actually kissed n theatre, I was quite surprised when the two actors (Hari and Neha) actually lip locked ! Hmmmm... !

The play was really good and I enjoyed it a lot. I wish more such plays came to Pune. It wud really be a treat. The end was really good, where the director gave a lil speech about Evam "the only profit making theatre group in India." Altogether, a great event and 2.5 hours well spent. Cheers to that.

P.S. EVAM is on an India tour and will be performing in many cities. Catch them if you can, its really worth it. Logon to www.indianstage.in to book tickets !

P.P.S. I totally dug the fact that all the music they played was Pink Floyd ! Super !
